Random acts of kindness can be as simple as letting someone go ahead in line or traffic, adding a little extra to a tip, and holding open a door for someone to walk through. These are all random actions we can take that could help make someone else's day a little brighter.
Today, Feb. 17th is Random Acts of Kindness Day. It’s a day (and week) worth celebrating because it highlights how each of us can help create an impact in the world through the smallest of actions. This ‘pay it forward mentality’ aligns with Narwhal Magic Kindness’ belief that everyone should feel affirmed, recognized, and acknowledged no matter how they identify.
In researching some simple actions people can take on this holiday, the Narwhal team found some fantastic organizations, including the Denver-based nonprofit, The Random Act of Kindness Foundation. The organization has many suggestions for celebrating National Random Acts of Kindness Day at home, in the classroom, or at work!
The Narwhal team also loves the Foundation’s #makekindnessthenorm movement because it focuses on doing something nice every day of the year, not just on one day of the year.
Maybe doing something good for one day, one week, or one year could end up being good for us as humans. This includes our transgender families. Jan Moore points out that random acts of kindness allow our families to regain our power. Don’t rule it out! Studies across the globe have shown that simple acts of kindness can help improve our mental health, increase happiness, and could end up being contagious! Let’s spread kindness and turn what once was random into a daily habit.
